Today we will explore 2A football in Alabama and the 2010 season. Nine teams moved down from class 3A but only a single one of those teams made the playoffs in 2009. That would be Colbert Heights. Five teams move up from 1A and will find the going a little tougher this year. Of all the teams that made a move only Colbert Heights will have any impact on 2A football in 2010.

Region Eight went 52-37 in 2009 to capture the best overall record. They also placed five teams in the playoffs. No other region comes close to matching this record. The worst region goes to Region Six where only Vincent made the playoffs last season. They were also the only team in Region Six to have a winning record while half the teams won less than three games.

Reeltown seems to be the statewide favorite but look for Leroy and Elba to have some say it who gets a trip to Auburn in December.

Once again we threw all the teams in a bucket we found in a shed out back and began to draw them out until we came up with this article. This is our projected order of finish for 2A.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Luverne 'Toad' Wise was the first female football player in Alabama and may have been the first in the country. She was a kicker for the Escambia County Blue Devils in 1939-40.
