THIS WEEK IN ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
AHSFHS.org Report
(Aug. 30, 2020)

Week Two

Two weeks down and things are starting to settle in for most schools. Here are a few tidbits from the second week of action around the state.

   *  We at AHSFHS.org are working hard every day to keep things accurate and straight in a very difficult season. I ask that if you see something that appears to be incorrect please let me know and I can investigate it. I am blessed to have so many coaches and especially Ron Ingram at the AHSAA who have helped us resolve most of the games being forfeited and cancelled.

   *  It is not all clear cut as sometimes teams make agreements to cancel their contract between the two schools which can create unique situations. Once we get to region play next week it will become much easier as every game will be played or forfeited.

   *  One oddity occurs when two schools are scheduled to play a game but both have cancelled their entire season. The AHSAA has stated that both teams receive a forfeit according to Ron Ingram. If that holds up R.C. Hatch - Francis Marion and Choctaw County - Sumter Central will all four be stuck with forfeits this past week.

   *  Please bear with us here as some things may be a little slower to appear on the website as it is taking much longer this year to figure out some of the games each week. Some unexpected cancellations each week will prove difficult to find. Some things on the site cannot be posted until every game is found and accounted for each week.

   *  Some schools will have short season as many of their games have been cancelled. Keith in particular began the season with a ten game schedule but now the Bears are down to just five. Four of their first five games have been forfeited by their opponents. So after five weeks Keith will be 4-1 or 5-0 and will have played only a single game.

   *   Only four teams remain in their region (1A-Region3) so if the other three can complete the season they will be guaranteed a playoff slot. Only five teams remain in 2A region 3 today.

   *  Another school of interest is Central Hayneville. They began with a nine game schedule and are now down to just four games.

   *  Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 221 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season. The Bucs opened the 2020 season as the #4 team in 7A and defeated Central Phenix City 45-35.

   *  UMS-Wright saw their thirty-four game winning streak come to an end as Mobile Christian pulled out a 25-24 overtime victory. Fyffe takes over the longest winning streak with 31 consecutive wins.

   *   Barbour County had high hopes to end a string of sixty consecutive losses this season. The Jaguars will not be playing this season but will not pick up a forfeit until after Sept. 4th when they are scheduled to play Maplesville.

   *   Fyffe has a streak of 33 consecutive region wins with no signs of slowing down this year even with the move up to 3A. The Red Devils open region play this week at Collinsville.

   *   Brindlee Mountain has lost 44 consecutive region games and will have an opportunity to break that streak when they travel to Sylvania this week.

   *  The Fyffe Red Devils have won 49 straight regular season games. They are within sight of the 56 game mark set by Prattville a few years ago. Fyffe had an open date this past week.

   *   Fyffe also holds the longest home winning streak of any team in the state with a string of 41 consecutive.

   *   UMS-Wright also saw their 16 consecutive road winning streak come to an end. Central Clay County now holds the longest road winning streak at 13 games. Chambers Academy leads the AISA schools with a streak of 27 straight road victories following a 38-0 victory over Abbeville Christian at home.

   *   Fyffe hopes to avoid the dreaded shutout and extend their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 264 games without being shutout.

   *   Below is a list of the known games that were forfeited. It is sad for everyone involved with these schools as they were not able to participate this week. Some will miss out on the entire season. We decided to publish this only for historical reasons in this most unusual season. We wish to be as accurate as possible so if we missed anything please email me so we can get every game accounted for correctly. By our count there were 27 forfeited games. Let us all hope this improves next week.
