Week 13

On to the quarterfinals for the lower six classes, semi-finals for 7A and the championship games for the AISA. Here are a few tidbits from this week's action.


   *     Cleveland, Decatur Heritage Christian, and Hillcrest Evergreen move on to the third round for the first time in their school's history.

   *    It has been a while since these teams got this deep into the playoffs; Austin (1983), Gerogiana (1995) and Minor 1988.

   *    Teams still playing who have never won a third round game include the three above and Bayside Academy, Beauregard, Berry Fayette, Flomaton, Hillcrest Evergreen, and Mortimer Jordan.

   *    Maplesville and T.R. Miller are still playing football and have each won 16 third round games. They both have identical 16-5 records. Although they no longer field a team, Clay County was 14-0 in the third round.

   *    Class 7A teams are in the semi-finals this week. Hoover has a stellar 17-1 record in semi-final games including 5-0 on the road. The other three teams are a combined 2-3 in the same round.

   *    Bessemer City was a number four seed in 6A region four.

   *    In Class 4A, Region five still has three teams remaining; Cordova, Fayette County and Hamilton. Class 3A region one accomplished the same feat along with region eight.

   *   The Fyffe Red Devils have a string of 207 games in which they have scored dating to 10/22/1999. They extended the streak with a hard fought 14-7 win over Red Bay. Brantley is in second at 187 games followed by Calera (167), Demopolis (165) and Prattville (158).

   *  Clay-Chalkville, retains their hold on of the longest winning streak in the AHSAA at 27 games after defeating Homewood 40-39 in the second round. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA school with a 70 game winning streak following a 49-12 win over Clarke Prep.
 
   *   Muscle Shoals has a string of 37 straight home field wins over the past five seasons but fell to Minor 23-16 on the road.

   *   Spanish Fort has won 24 consecutive road games following their second round road win over Northridge. Edgewood Academy has a string of 39 straight wins on the road.

   *   The Clay-Chalkville Cougars have scored at least twenty points in 74 straight games. The Cougars have also scored at least 30 points in 32 consecutive games. Both are AHSAA state records.

   *   Edgewood Academy has scored at least thirty points in 31 straight games in the AISA. Edgewood has also scored at least twenty points in 69 consecutive games.

 * Edgewood Academy has won a team record 70 consecutive games since 10/28/2010.
 * Clay-Chalkville has won a team record 27 consecutive games since 8/23/2014.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Thomasville scored 54 points against Gulf Shores in the first quarter of a game in 2003. They managed to hang on for an 81-14 win.
