Coaching - Region Records

When researching the football coaches with the most region wins one thing becomes apparent. The list of coaches with the most region wins resembles that of the coaches with the most overall wins. But, when looking at the coaches with the best region winning percentage we see several coaches that are not readily found on most other coaching lists.

Danny Powell of Leroy and Jackson football fame leads our list of coaches with the best overall region winning percentage coming in at an amazing 48-1 record. His only region loss since coming to the AHSAA came back in 2006 when Leroy lost to rival Southern Choctaw 25-19. Since that loss Coach Powell's teams have reeled off forty-four consecutive region wins.

Coach David Lowery is close to matching Coach Powell's feat coming in with a region record of 92-3 at Elba and Brantley. Since 2001 his Brantley football teams compiled a region record of 75-1. Their lone loss came to McKenzie in 2010 by a score of 18-12. Along the way Brantley set the state record with sixty-two consecutive region wins.

Coach Buddy Anderson of Vestavia Hills leads the way for the most region wins all-time with 122. His Rebels have won fifteen region championships along the way since since he took over the head coaching position in 1978.
