The 2010 high school football season is beginning to take shape with three weeks in the books.
Here is a look at some of the action from this weekend.
* Coach Waldon Tucker's Fayette County team took it to
Tarrant 28-0 on Friday giving the coach 302 wins and ties him with Coach Glenn
Daniel for the most wins in history for a high school coach in Alabama.
Next week Coach Tucker will go after win number 303 and the record.
* T.R. Miller finally won after a couple of failed attempts and
reaches the elusive 600 win plateau. That is the most of any team in Alabama
High School football history according to our research to date. The Tigers also
scored in the 64-7 win over Excel so they extend their scoring streak to 296
games.
* Patrician Academy lost to Clarke
Prep 33-12 on Friday. That is two losses in a row for the first time since 2003.
* The Brantley Bulldogs top our list for the longest winning streak with seventeen
consecutive victories. The Bulldogs also won their region contest with Florala
54-0 to up the longest region winning streak to 58 games in a row.
* Central Hayneville
continues to top our list with twenty-six consecutive losses. J.F. Shields is
not far behind with a streak of their own at 25 games.
* Linden has won twenty-five regular season games in a row.
They defeated A.L. Johnson 82-0. The Patriots did little to run up the score as
they only ran 17 offensive plays and did not attempt a pass in the game.
*
Handley won at home against Beulah 48-13 and their streak continues with twenty-two home wins in a
row.
* Hazel Green lost a region game to
Huntsville 14-34. That loss marks the thirty-fourth straight time they have lost a region contest.
* For the second week in a row a new team won their first game. Saraland
duplicated Randolph's performance of last Friday by defeating Monroe County.
* Coach Joe Billingsley will be after win number 100 next Friday when the
Gadsden Titans take on Huffman. Billingsley has a career record of 99-54
including stints at Gadsden and Gordo. He won a state championship at Gordo in
2001.
Note: The new schools will not be included in team records because of the
obvious reasons.
