Summary:

Turnovers were a big part of the 5A state championship game as Williamson made them and Etowah capitalized on them in a 42-26 win for the Blue Devils. The Lions threw four interceptions and lost two fumbles during the game but were able to keep it close until the third quarter.

Jamarcus Russell would complete 11 of 13 passes for 134 yards in the first half but his lions quickly ran into trouble in the second half.. Adam Gilmer intercepted Russell at the Lion's 48 yard line on the first offensive play in the third quarter. Etowah would score a touchdown on the drive and another shortly thereafter to take a 35-14 lead with five minutes left in the third quarter.

Mayo would complete 6 of 12 for 150 yards for the Blue Devils who would celebrate their first state championship after losing in the past two state title games. Jamarcus Russell would finish the game completing 18 of 34 passes for 256 yards. Carnell Williams would lead all runners with 194 yards rushing and a 91 yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

This was the first time Williamson had made an appearance in the championship game.
