Summary:
           
Steve Christopher led Anniston to an amazing season and capped it off with a state title for the Bulldogs. He completed 23 of 43 passes for 305 yards and rushed 16 times for 52 yards. Orlando Watters was the leading receiver with 14 catches for 160 yards. Murphy would actually strike first with an 86 yard interception return of a tipped pass from Christopher. Anniston tied the score just before the half on an 11 play, 73 yard drive that ended with a Christopher to Ken Best 7 yard pass with 0:32 remaining in the first half.

            Other receivers for the Bulldogs were Miguel Callier with 4 catches for 38 yards, Ken best 3 for 37, Billy Smith 1 for 50, Chad Ray 2 for 23, Tracy Pilot 2 for 16 and Larry Bowie caught a pass good for 19 yards. Other leading rushers for Anniston were Sean King with 13 carries for 45 yards, Larry Bowie 12 for 68, Ward 9 for 67 and Orlando Watters ran the ball 5 times for 32 yards. It was the first state championship of any kind for the Bulldogs.

            Steve Christopher would set state records for touchdown passes with 42 tosses. He completed 246 of 392 passes for a 62.8 completion percentage and 3,586 yards. He also rushed for 735 yards and seven touchdowns for a total of 4,321 yards of total offense. Watters caught a state record 102 passes for the season.
