Summary:
             
Marengo County halfbacks Buddy Brackin and Clifton McKinght teamed up to lead the Tigers to a 42-7 win over Valley Head in the first ever Class 1A playoffs. Brackin rushed for a game high 193 yards before leaving the game in the third period with a sprained ankle.
              Marengo scored the first time they had the ball when Brackin gained 49 of the 80 yards on the drive and got the touchdown on a short run. McKnight scored four touchdowns on short runs and completed 4 of 5 passes including a 27 yard score to Bill Glass in the final stanza.

Bart Starr received coaching from Kentucky great Babe Parilli his senior season at Sidney Lanier in hopes of joining Bear Bryant at Kentucky. He had to settle for Alabama.
