Alabama High School Football Head Coaches

Jerry Hood


Coach Hood began his coaching career at McAdory in 1993 where he served as an assistant coach for three seasons.

In 1996 he moved over to Oak Mountain to assist in starting the football program at the new high school. He served as the defensive coordinator from 1999-2003. He also coached ninth grade basketball and served as the strength and conditioning coach at Oak Mountain.

He became the head coach in 2004 for five seasons with a 28-26 record. His 2005 team reached the semi-finals before falling in the playoffs.

In 2009 Coach Hood moved to Clay-Chalkville and took over the head coaching duties from Brent Smith. Since that time his teams have won and won consistently.

In 2014, the Cougars dominated class 6A and won the schools second championship in football with a win over Saraland in Auburn. The team scored an amazing 731 points in fifteen games, one of the highest totals in history.

Coach Hood was named USA TODAY Alabama Coach of the Year and the Alabama Football Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2014.

His all-time record stands at 144-69 in eighteen seasons as a head coach. Following the 2016 season he resigned his position at Clay-Chalkville before taking the head coaching job at Leeds in 2019.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Parrish scored a record 77 points in a playoff game against Cedar Bluff in 2001. The Tornados were shutout the following week 19-0 by Courtland.
