The 1957 Sylvania Rams were named State Champions for the Fourth District by the Birmingham News. The Rams rolled through the first eight games of the season defeating their opponents by a combined score of 185-15. In the last game of the season against Dade County GA, Sylvania lost with six starters sidelined and the rest of the squad battling a case of the flu. Later, the Georgia High School Association forced Dade County to forfeit the game. Donald Murdock, 165 lb. Senior, led the team by scoring 50 points from his end position. He along with Wallace Beam, 200 lb. Senior tackle, were named to All-State teams by the Birmingham Newspapers. Murdock, Beam, L.C. Goolesby, 140 lb. Senior guard, and Kenneth Parker, 200 lb. Senior quarterback, were named to the All-DeKalb County team following one of the most successful seasons in school history.
