1961 Foley Lions

 1961    Foley Lions
 Record: 10-0-0
 Head Coach: Ivan Jones

The 1961 Foley Lions were chosen Class AA State Champions by the Birmingham News from District 1.

The 1961 Foley Lions were a dominant team to say the least. They rolled through a perfect 10-0 season and along the way outscored their opponents 433-6. The closest game they played all season was a 31-0 victory over archrival Robertsdale. Hall of Fame Coach Ivan Jones had a cast of talented athletes led by future Foley coach Lester Smith at quarterback.

His backup was not bad either, sophomore Kenny Stabler. Running backs Don Foster and Anthony DeMarlo would score 20 and 21 touchdowns respectively on the season. The only touchdown allowed all season came against Alba late in the fourth quarter after Foley had built a 41-0 lead on a 65 yard pass play.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Hamilton shutout an amazing 14 consecutive opponents from 1928-1930. A streak that will never be matched in modern football.
