Quarterback Bobby Hunt of Lanett led the South to a 20-6 triumph over the North to hand the Rebels a 5-4 lead (with two ties) in the series. A crowd of 12,564 saw Hunt score on runs of 63 and 14 yards and direct a 69 yard, 11 play drive for the other touchdown. His 63-yarder was the clincher, set up by his own interception of a Yank pass which thwarted a serious drive. The North tied it, 6-6, in the third period when Ronnie Davis of Gordo punched across from the 10 following a blocked punt.
Hunt, top ground-gainer with 94 yards in seven tries, was a near-unanimous selection as most valuable back. Bessemer Guard Joe Baughan of the South was named most valuable lineman.
The South coaching staff was headed by Ralph Hutchinson, Choctaw County. His aids were E. L. (Sonny) Queen, Troy; Jack Ray, Wetumpka; Morris T. Ward, Marengo County; and Don Bulger, Shelby County. Gadsden High's Jerry Watford guided the North. His assistants were Jack Caldwell, Walker County; Tom Calvin, Sylacauga; J. P. Cain, Morgan County; and J. T. Elmore, Pickens County.
