 2022 Preview

Sardis finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Sardis finished sixth in Class 5A region seven with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Sardis averaged scoring just 11.4 points a game. The Lions also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 38.1 points a game.

The Lions would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, Sardis has gone a combined 55-70. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Sardis has managed to compile a record of 99-162. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 5A and 304th in the AHSAA.

The Lions will be under the direction of new head football coach Chris Stephenson as they enter the 2022 season.  Coach Stephenson served as an assistant coach at Citrus in Florida last season.

The Sardis Lions will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2022 season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Lions if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. After just a single win last year, Sardis will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season.

The Lions open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent D.A.R. on Friday, August 19 at Lions Stadium. Last year the D.A.R. Patriots finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 4A region seven. The Patriots ended last season on a positive note with a win over Brindlee Mountain by a score of 39-2 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Sardis and D.A.R. have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Lions have a 3-1-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2017 with D.A.R. winning by a score of 31-21.
