 2018 Preview

wetumpka completed the 2017 season with a 13-2 record. Last year wetumpka captured the region three title and a number one seed in the Class 6A playoffs. They finished region play with a 5-1 record. It was the first region championship for the Indians since the 2010 season. The Indians won four consecutive playoff games to reach the Class 6A State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Pinson Valley at the Alabama Super Seven 31-10 in Auburn.

No team at wetumpka ever won more games in a season than the thirteen victories last year. The last time they won as many was back in 1995. The 613 points scored by the Indians last year were a team record in a single season. The Indians hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Perry saw improvement as they won thirteen games following a 8-3 record in 2016.

The high-scoring wetumpka offense ranked 13th in the AHSAA. They averaged 40.9 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Indians have gone 21-5 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, wetumpka has gone a combined 54-37. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 6A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, wetumpka has managed to compile a record of 170-104. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 6A and 79th in the AHSAA.

The Indians are led by head coach Tim Perry who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 42-28 over the past six seasons at wetumpka. Under his direction the Indians have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won one region crown with Coach Perry.

Coach Perry's overall record as a head football coach in twenty season stands at 115-101 (53.2%). His 115 wins rank 46th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Perry's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times and won four region championships.

The wetumpka Indians will play in Class 6A region three during the 2018 season.

wetumpka enters the 2018 season with a string of 9 consecutive wins on their home field at Hohenburg Field.

The Indians should be considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Indians are making another deep run into the playoffs.

The Indians open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Fairhope on Friday, August 24 at Hohenburg Field. Last year the Fairhope Pirates finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in second place in Class 7A region one. The Pirates lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Lee Montgomery by a score of 28-7.

wetumpka and Fairhope have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Indians have a 3-0-0 record against the Pirates. They last met in 2007 with wetumpka winning by a score of 62-35.

wetumpka returns 6A All-State  linebacker Colton Adams. He was named to the second team last season. The Indians also return  athlete J.D. Martin. He was named to the first team.

College prospects include: Jadarious Martin (5-10, 179) athlete, Patrick Lucas Jr. (6-3, 270) defensive tackle,
