 2018 Preview 


       Tarrant completed the 2017 season with a 7-3 record. Last year Tarrant captured the region seven title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 5-1 record. It was the first region championship for the Wildcats since the 2006 season. Tarrant's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Ranburne by a score of 28-12.

       The Wildcats improved in 2017 with their first winning season since 2010. The Wildcats won as many games as in any season since 2006. It marked the first time since the 2014 season that the Wildcats qualified for the playoffs.

       The defense was very stingy last season as Tarrant ranked 31st in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 13.4 points a game.

       Since 2010, Tarrant has gone a combined 29-51. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 2A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Tarrant has managed to compile a record of 133-130. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 2A and 174th in the AHSAA.




       The Wildcats are led by head coach Eric Johnson who is entering his twelveth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 42-70 over the past eleven seasons at Tarrant. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won one region crown with Coach Johnson.

       Coach Johnson's overall record as a head football coach in eleven season stands at 42-70 (37.5%).

       The Tarrant Wildcats will play in Class 2A region five during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 2A but move from region seven over to region five.

       The Wildcats should be in contention for a playoff spot in region five this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Wildcats open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Midfield on Friday, August 31 at Winfred E. Jackson Stadium. Last year the Midfield Patriots finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fourth place in Class 3A region four. The Patriots lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Wicksburg by a score of 28-6.

       Tarrant and Midfield have met a total of 37 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 14-23-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2013 with Midfield winning by a score of 28-4.
