 2018 Preview

Etowah completed the 2017 season with a 11-2 record. Last year Etowah captured the region seven title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Blue Devils since the 2011 season. Etowah lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Briarwood team by a score of 31-0.

The Blue Devils won as many games as in any season since 1999.

The defense was very stingy last season as Etowah ranked 42nd in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 14.2 points a game.

Since 2010, Etowah has gone a combined 63-29. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 5A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Etowah has managed to compile a record of 181-92. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 5A and 55th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2009.

The Blue Devils are led by head coach Drew Noles who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 40-18 over the past five seasons at Etowah. Under his direction the Blue Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won one region crown with Coach Noles.

Coach Noles' overall record as a head football coach in eighteen season stands at 120-81 (59.7%). His 120 wins rank 40th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Noles' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won one region championship.

The Etowah Blue Devils will play in Class 5A region six during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Blue Devils remain in 5A but move from region seven over to region six.

The Blue Devils enter the 2018 season riding a 8 game regular season winning streak. They have won 13 straight games on their home turf at Jim Glover Field.

The Blue Devils should be considered one of the favorites for the region six championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Blue Devils have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2009 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

The Blue Devils open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Gadsden City on Thursday, August 23 at Jim Glover Field. Last year the Gadsden City Titans finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 7A region four.

Etowah and Gadsden City have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Blue Devils have a 2-6-0 record against the Titans. They last met in 2009 with Gadsden City winning by a score of 51-6.

Etowah returns 5A All-State  defensive lineman Alex Howard. He was named to the second team last season. The Blue Devils also return  linebacker Carter Dingler. He was named to the second team. The Blue Devils also return  linebacker Jarren Wright. He was named to the first team. The Blue Devils also return  defensive lineman Jessie Altman.        College prospects include: Jamin Graham (6-5, 225) defensive end, Justin Harris (6-1, 180) safety,
