 2018 Preview 


       Abbeville completed the 2017 season with a 9-3 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region two, the Yellow Jackets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Abbeville reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to St. Lukes by a score of 69-34.

       The Yellow Jackets won as many games as in any season since 2006. The Yellow Jackets hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Tyra saw improvement as they won nine games following a 4-7 record in 2016.

       Since 2010, Abbeville has gone a combined 61-48. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 29 seasons, Abbeville has managed to compile a record of 112-155. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 2A and 272nd in the AHSAA.




       The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Robin Tyra who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 18-25 over the past four seasons at Abbeville. Under his direction the Yellow Jackets have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Tyra.

       Coach Tyra's overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 40-66 (37.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Tyra's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times .

       The Abbeville Yellow Jackets will play in Class 2A region two during the 2018 season.

       Abbeville enters the 2018 season with a string of 6 consecutive wins on their home field at Memorial Stadium.

       The Yellow Jackets will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region two this season.

       The Yellow Jackets open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Ashford on Friday, August 31 at W.H. Brown Field. Last year the Ashford Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 4A region two. The Yellow Jackets closed out the regular season with a loss to Wicksburg by a score of 42-0.

       Abbeville and Ashford have met a total of 48 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 22-23-3 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2017 with Abbeville winning by a score of 28-0.

       Abbeville returns 2A All-State  defensive back Jaquan Kincey. He was named to the first team last season.
