 2018 Preview 


       Winterboro completed the 2017 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 1A region four, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Winterboro's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Georgiana by a score of 64-0.

       Winterboro was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bulldogs want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.7 points a game.

       Since 2010, Winterboro has gone a combined 41-44. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 1A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Winterboro has managed to compile a record of 100-153. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 1A and 285th in the AHSAA.




       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Alan Beckett who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 21-31 over the past five seasons at Winterboro. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Beckett.

       Coach Beckett's overall record as a head football coach in eleven season stands at 64-54 (54.2%). Over the course of his career, Coach Beckett's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won two region championships.

       The Winterboro Bulldogs will play in Class 1A region five during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Bulldogs remain in 1A but move from region four over to region five.

       The Bulldogs will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region five this season.

       The Bulldogs open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Central Coosa on Friday, August 24 at Bulldog Stadium. Last year the Central Coosa Cougars finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in seventh place in Class 3A region three. The Cougars closed out the regular season with a loss to Childersburg by a score of 47-0.

       Winterboro and Central Coosa have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 2-0-0 record against the Cougars. They last met in with
