 2018 Preview 


       Valley finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Valley just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 5A region four with a 1-5 region record.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Valley averaged scoring just 12.9 points a game.

       The Rams would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, Valley has gone a combined 35-50. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 5A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Valley has managed to compile a record of 131-129. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 5A and 179th in the AHSAA.




       The Rams are led by head coach James Daniel who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at Valley. The Rams saw improvement from a 1-9 record the season before coach Daniel arrived. The Rams have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Daniel.

       Coach Daniel's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 2-8 (20.0%).

       The Valley Rams will play in Class 5A region two during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Rams remain in 5A but move from region four over to region two. The Rams have one of the toughest schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 72-42 last season. That ranks 4th in Class 5A and 22nd in the AHSAA.

       Region two will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. This season, the Rams will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two.

      

       The Rams open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Lanett on Friday, August 24 at Morgan-Washburn Stadium. Last year the Lanett Panthers finished with an overall record of 15-0 and in first place in Class 2A region five. The Panthers won the Class 2A State Championship last season when they defeated Leroy by a score of 33-15 in the Super Seven finals in Auburn.

       Valley and Lanett have met a total of 92 times on the football field. The Rams have a 58-32-2 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2017 with Lanett winning by a score of 28-7.
