 2018 Preview 


       Sparkman completed the 2017 season with a 7-4 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 7A region four, the Senators earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Sparkman's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Hoover by a score of 49-7.

       The Senators improved in 2017 with their first winning season since 2006. The Senators won as many games as in any season since 2006. It marked the first time since the 2006 season that the Senators qualified for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, Sparkman has gone a combined 24-57. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 7A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Sparkman has managed to compile a record of 89-156. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 7A and 309th in the AHSAA.




       The Senators are led by head coach Laron White who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 7-4 record in his first season at Sparkman. The Senators saw improvement from a 4-6 record the season before coach White arrived. Under his direction the Senators have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach White.

       Coach White's overall record as a head football coach in fifteen season stands at 155-34 (82.0%). His 155 wins rank 27th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach White's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fifteen times and won nine region championships. Coach White won two state championships prior to arriving at Sparkman, the last coming in 2013 at .

       The Sparkman Senators will play in Class 7A region four during the 2018 season.

       The Senators should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Senators open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Hazel Green on Friday, August 31 at Bob Grimwood Stadium. Last year the Hazel Green Trojans finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class 6A region eight. The Trojans closed out the regular season with a loss to Oak Mountain by a score of 36-29.

       Sparkman and Hazel Green have met a total of 62 times on the football field. The Senators have a 39-23-0 record against the Trojans. They last met in 2017 with Sparkman winning by a score of 20-14.
