 2018 Preview 


       Sheffield completed the 2017 season with a 4-7 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region eight, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Sheffield's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Fyffe by a score of 48-0.

       The Bulldogs hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just four games which followed a 9-3 record in 2016.

       Sheffield was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bulldogs want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.5 points a game.

       Since 2010, Sheffield has gone a combined 44-45. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Sheffield has managed to compile a record of 127-135. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 2A and 205th in the AHSAA.




       The Bulldogs are led by head coach David Hufstedler who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 40-38 over the past seven seasons at Sheffield. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hufstedler.

       Coach Hufstedler's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 40-38 (51.3%).

       The Sheffield Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region seven during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Bulldogs remain in 2A but move from region eight over to region seven.

       The Bulldogs will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region seven this season.

       The Bulldogs open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Wilson on Thursday, August 23 at Walton R. Wright Stadium. Last year the Wilson Warriors finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in second place in Class 4A region eight. The Warriors lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Cherokee County by a score of 28-24.

       Sheffield and Wilson have met a total of 22 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 16-6-0 record against the Warriors. They last met in 2017 with Wilson winning by a score of 27-0.
