 2018 Preview 


       Selma completed the 2017 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Selma finished sixth in Class 6A region four with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Saints last playoff victory came during the 1984 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Since 2010, Selma has gone a combined 36-46. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 6A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Selma has managed to compile a record of 92-144. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 6A and 287th in the AHSAA.




       The Saints are led by head coach Christopher Raymond who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-6 record in his first season at Selma. The Saints saw improvement from a 1-9 record the season before coach Raymond arrived. The Saints have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Raymond.

       Coach Raymond's overall record as a head football coach in fourteen season stands at 59-89 (39.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Raymond's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times .

       The Selma Saints will play in Class 6A region three during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Saints remain in 6A but move from region four over to region three. The Saints have one of the toughest schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 64-41 last season. That ranks 8th in Class 6A and 28th in the AHSAA.

       This season, the Saints will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region three.

       The Saints open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Southside Selma on Friday, August 31 at Memorial Stadium. Last year the Southside Selma Panthers finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in third place in Class 3A region three. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Clarke County by a score of 56-8.

       Selma and Southside Selma have met a total of 41 times on the football field. The Saints have a 32-9-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2017 with Selma winning by a score of 52-6.

Collinsville completed the 1931 season with a record of 1-4-5. The five ties will forever be a state record since all games are now decided by overtime.
