 2018 Preview 


       Oakman completed the 2017 season with a 8-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region four, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Oakman reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Hillcrest Evergreen by a score of 42-14.

       Since 2010, Oakman has gone a combined 65-30. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 3A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Oakman has managed to compile a record of 143-120. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 3A and 151st in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2010.




       The Wildcats are led by head coach Mark Hastings who is entering his tenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 66-39 over the past nine seasons at Oakman. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Hastings.

       Coach Hastings' overall record as a head football coach in nineteen season stands at 115-91 (55.8%). His 115 wins rank 46th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Hastings' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times and won two region championships.

       The Oakman Wildcats will play in Class 3A region four during the 2018 season.

       The Wildcats should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2010 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2018.

       The Wildcats open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Curry on Friday, August 31 at Hudson/ORear Field. Last year the Curry Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 5A region six. The Yellow Jackets closed out the regular season with a loss to Carbon Hill by a score of 44-21.

       Oakman and Curry have met a total of 51 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 28-17-6 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2015 with Oakman winning by a score of 34-12.

The Super 6 State Championships began in 1996. Since then all title games were played at Legion Field in Birmingham until 2009.
