 2018 Preview 


       Montevallo finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Montevallo finished sixth in Class 3A region four with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Bulldogs hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just three games which followed a 10-2 record in 2016.

       Montevallo struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 36.3 points a game.

       Since 2010, Montevallo has gone a combined 33-51. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 36th in Class 4A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Montevallo has managed to compile a record of 119-131. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 4A and 216th in the AHSAA.




       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Brandon Wilcox who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 13-9 over the past two seasons at Montevallo. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Wilcox.

       Coach Wilcox's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 23-23 (50.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Wilcox's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times .

       The Montevallo Bulldogs will play in Class 4A region three during the 2018 season. The Bulldogs move up in classification to Class 4A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Bulldogs if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season.

       The Bulldogs open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Marbury on Friday, August 24 at Theron Fisher Stadium. Last year the Marbury Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in third place in Class 5A region three. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to St. Pauls by a score of 48-6.

       Montevallo and Marbury have met a total of 10 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 6-4-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2009 with Montevallo winning by a score of 20-7.

       Montevallo returns 3A All-State  linebacker Tyler Olds. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.
