 2018 Preview 


       Jackson completed the 2017 season with a 5-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region one, the Aggies earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Jackson's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Calera by a score of 28-27.

       The Aggies lost as many games as in any season since 2007.

       As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Jackson has gone a combined 84-18. Their 82.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 5A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Jackson has managed to compile a record of 180-101. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 5A and 62nd in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2007.




       The Aggies are led by head coach Danny Powell who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 74-16 over the past seven seasons at Jackson. Under his direction the Aggies have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have won four region crowns with Coach Powell. Coach Powell led Jackson to a state championship in 2011.

       Coach Powell's overall record as a head football coach in seventeen season stands at 160-55 -1 (74.4%). His 160 wins rank 26th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Powell's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won nine region championships. He has a 41-8 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches. Coach Powell won five state championships prior to arriving at Jackson, the last coming in 2010 at .

       The Jackson Aggies will play in Class 5A region one during the 2018 season.

       While most teams rebuild during the off season, Jackson has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Aggies should be in contention for a playoff spot in region one this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2007 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2018.

       The Aggies open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Clarke County on Thursday, August 30 at Legion Field. Last year the Clarke County Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 11-3 and in second place in Class 3A region one. The Bulldogs lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 3A playoffs to Hillcrest Evergreen by a score of 20-14.

       Jackson and Clarke County have met a total of 106 times on the football field. The Aggies have a 68-31-7 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2017 with Jackson winning by a score of 40-28.
