 2018 Preview 


       Isabella completed the 2017 season with a 10-2 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region three, the Mustangs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Isabella reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Wadley by a score of 55-19.

       The high-scoring Isabella offense ranked 11th in the AHSAA. They averaged 41.2 points a game.

       Since 2010, Isabella has gone a combined 50-36. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 1A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Isabella has managed to compile a record of 118-139. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 1A and 233rd in the AHSAA.




       The Mustangs are led by head coach Tate Leonard who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 20-4 over the past two seasons at Isabella. Under his direction the Mustangs have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Leonard.

       Coach Leonard's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 20-4 (83.3%).

       The Isabella Mustangs will play in Class 1A region three during the 2018 season.

       Isabella enters the 2018 season with a string of 8 consecutive wins on their home field at Bill Nabors Stadium.

       The Mustangs should be in contention for a playoff spot in region three this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Mustangs open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Billingsley on Friday, August 31 at Mims Field. Last year the Billingsley Bears finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 2A region four. The Bears closed out the regular season with a loss to Dallas County by a score of 30-14.

       Isabella and Billingsley have met a total of 71 times on the football field. The Mustangs have a 27-44-0 record against the Bears. They last met in 2015 with Billingsley winning by a score of 45-29.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

In 1925 Langdale tied a record by defeating Milltown 125-0. Hamilton had set the record by thrashing Fayette 125-0 in 1915.
