 2018 Preview 


       Greensboro completed the 2017 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Greensboro just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 4A region four with a 4-3 region record.

       The Raiders last playoff victory came during the 2000 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Greensboro was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Raiders want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.1 points a game.

       Since 2010, Greensboro has gone a combined 42-43. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 4A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Greensboro has managed to compile a record of 136-133. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 4A and 170th in the AHSAA.




       The Raiders will be under the direction of new head football coach Juan Williams as they enter the 2018 season.

       Coach Williams' overall record as a head football coach in twelve season stands at 50-74 (40.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Williams' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times and won one region championship.

       The Greensboro Raiders will play in Class 4A region three during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Raiders remain in 4A but move from region four over to region three.

       The Raiders will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region three this season. Greensboro came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

       The Raiders open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Bibb County on Friday, August 24 at Choctaw Stadium. Last year the Bibb County Choctaws finished with an overall record of 11-2 and in first place in Class 5A region three. The Choctaws lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 5A playoffs to UMS-Wright by a score of 31-7.

       Greensboro and Bibb County have met a total of 44 times on the football field. The Raiders have a 16-27-1 record against the Choctaws. They last met in 2017 with Bibb County winning by a score of 43-30.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

In 1970 Monroe Academy won the first championship in the A.I.S.A. by defeating Lowndes Academy 6-0.
