 2018 Preview

Fayetteville finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Fayetteville finished eighth in Class 2A region five with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Wolves lost as many games as in any season since 2010.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Fayetteville averaged scoring just 12.4 points a game. The Wolves also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 39.6 points a game.

The Wolves would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Fayetteville has gone a combined 30-52. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 21 seasons, Fayetteville has not won much with a record of 59-148. Their 28.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 2A and 348th in the AHSAA.

The Wolves are led by head coach John Limbaugh who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 26-36 over the past six seasons at Fayetteville. Under his direction the Wolves have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Limbaugh.

Coach Limbaugh's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 26-36 (41.9%).

The Fayetteville Wolves will play in Class 2A region four during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Wolves remain in 2A but move from region five over to region four.

The Wolves enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

This season, the Wolves will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four.

The Wolves open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Woodland on Friday, August 24 at Sewell Field. Last year the Woodland Bobcats finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 2A region five. The Bobcats ended last season on a positive note with a win over Donoho by a score of 14-13 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Fayetteville and Woodland have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Wolves have a 4-4-0 record against the Bobcats. They last met in 2017 with Woodland winning by a score of 41-6.
