 2018 Preview 


       Collinsville completed the 2017 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Collinsville just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region six with a 3-4 region record.

       Since 2010, Collinsville has gone a combined 55-33. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Collinsville has managed to compile a record of 137-122. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 2A and 154th in the AHSAA.




       The Panthers are led by head coach Ernie Willingham who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 58-50 over the past ten seasons at Collinsville. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Willingham.

       Coach Willingham's overall record as a head football coach in seventeen season stands at 109-80 (57.7%). His 109 wins rank 51st among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Willingham's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won four region championships.

       The Collinsville Panthers will play in Class 2A region eight during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Panthers remain in 2A but move from region six over to region eight. The Panthers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 61-47 last season. That ranks 2nd in Class 2A and 82nd in the AHSAA.

       With a little luck and some improvement, the Panthers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region eight this season. Collinsville came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

       The Panthers open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Plainview on Thursday, August 23 at Cagle Civitan Stadium. Last year the Plainview Bears finished with an overall record of 9-2 and in first place in Class 3A region seven. The Bears lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Weaver by a score of 30-29.

       Collinsville and Plainview have met a total of 27 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 14-12-1 record against the Bears. They last met in 1979 with Plainview winning by a score of 28-8.

       Collinsville returns 2A All-State  athlete Kaleb Jones. He was named to the second team last season.

Thomasville scored 54 points against Gulf Shores in the first quarter of a game in 2003. They managed to hang on for an 81-14 win.
