 2017 Preview 


       Scottsboro completed the 2016 season with a 12-1 record. The Wildcats cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Scottsboro captured the region seven title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Wildcats since the 2004 season. Scottsboro lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Wenonah team by a score of 49-28.

       No team at Scottsboro ever won more games in a season than the twelve victories last year. The 586 points scored by the Wildcats last year were a team record in a single season. The Wildcats hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Jacobs saw improvement as they won twelve games following a 5-6 record in 2015.

       The high-scoring Scottsboro offense ranked 8th in the AHSAA. They averaged 45.1 points a game.

       Since 2010, Scottsboro has gone a combined 33-43. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 5A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Scottsboro has managed to compile a record of 140-145. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 5A and 196th in the AHSAA.

After five seasons as the head football coach at Scottsboro, Patrick Nix moves to Pinson Valley in 2017. His record at Scottsboro stands at 28-18 including 12-1 last year.


Don Jacobs arrives at Scottsboro after a successful stint in Oneonta. The former Alabama quarterback went 65-25 in seven seasons including a state championship in 2013. His overall record stands at 87-38 which includes three seasons at Elkmont.



       Coach Jacobs' overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 87-38 (69.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Jacobs' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won four region championships. Coach Jacobs won a state championship at in 2013.

       The Scottsboro Wildcats will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2017 season.

       The Wildcats enter the 2017 season riding a 13 game regular season winning streak. They have won 8 straight games on their home turf at Pat Trammell Stadium.

       The Wildcats enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region seven and could very well be representing the North in the Class 5A title game.

      Bo Nix returns for his Junior season after completing 101 of 183 passes for 1,737 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,300 yards and another 20 scores.

      The defense returns Senior DE Ethan Edmondson who registered 5 sacks for 17 yards in losses last season.

       The Wildcats open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Fort Payne on Friday, September 1 at Wildcat Stadium. Last year the Fort Payne Wildcats finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class 6A region seven. The Wildcats ended last season on a positive note with a win over Anniston by a score of 49-13 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Scottsboro and Fort Payne have met a total of 88 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 32-53-3 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2016 with Scottsboro winning by a score of 35-3.

       Scottsboro returns 5A All-State Junior quarterback Bo Nix. He was named to the first team last season.

The first night game played between high school teams in the state occurred on September 23, 1927 when Pike Road and Cloverdale met in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
