 2017 Preview 


       Munford completed the 2016 season with a 6-5 record. With their 5-2 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region three, the Lions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Munford's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Bibb County by a score of 41-34.

       Since 2010, Munford has gone a combined 53-31. Their 63.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 4A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Munford has managed to compile a record of 143-145. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 4A and 192nd in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2010.

       The Lions are led by head coach William F. Smith who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 16-9 over the past two seasons at Munford. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Smith.

       Coach Smith's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 51-39 (56.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Smith's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times .

       The Munford Lions will play in Class 4A region three during the 2017 season.

       The Lions will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region three this season.

       The Lions open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Central Clay County on Friday, August 25 at Volunteer Stadium. Last year the Central Clay County Volunteers finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in first place in Class 5A region four. The Volunteers lost in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs to St. Pauls by a score of 48-14.

       Munford and Central Clay County have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Lions have a 0-8-0 record against the Volunteers. They last met in 2016 with Central Clay County winning by a score of 14-10.
