 2017 Preview 


       Greensboro completed the 2016 season with a 5-6 record. With their 5-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 4A region four, the Raiders earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Greensboro's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Leeds by a score of 19-12.

       The Raiders last playoff victory came during the 2000 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Since 2010, Greensboro has gone a combined 38-37. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 4A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Greensboro has managed to compile a record of 148-133. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 4A and 157th in the AHSAA.

       The Raiders are led by head coach Richard Bevill who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 17-16 over the past three seasons at Greensboro. Under his direction the Raiders have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bevill.

       Coach Bevill's overall record as a head football coach in eight season stands at 36-46 (43.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Bevill's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times .

       The Greensboro Raiders will play in Class 4A region four during the 2017 season.

       The Raiders will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region four this season.

       The Raiders open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Minor on Friday, August 25 at Robert Lucky Stadium. Last year the Minor Tigers finished with an overall record of 11-2 and in first place in Class 6A region six. The Tigers lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 6A playoffs to Ramsay by a score of 40-20.

       Greensboro and Minor have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Raiders have a 0-2-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2016 with Minor winning by a score of 48-8.

Homewood defeated Benjamin Russell in five overtimes during the Class 5A Super Six state championship game in 2000.
