 2017 Preview

Fultondale completed the 2016 season with a 8-3 record. Last year Fultondale captured the region six title and a number one seed in the Class 3A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Wildcats since the 2002 season. Fultondale's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Weaver by a score of 37-7.

The high-scoring Fultondale offense ranked 27th in the AHSAA. They averaged 40.4 points a game.

Since 2010, Fultondale has gone a combined 53-28. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 3A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Fultondale has managed to compile a record of 133-139. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 3A and 205th in the AHSAA.

The Wildcats are led by head coach Richie Busby who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 29-16 over the past four seasons at Fultondale. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won one region crown with Coach Busby.

Coach Busby's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 29-16 (64.4%).

The Fultondale Wildcats will play in Class 3A region six during the 2017 season.

The Wildcats enter the 2017 season having won 6 straight region games.

The Wildcats should be considered one of the favorites for the region six championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Wildcats have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2010 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

The Wildcats open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Tarrant on Thursday, August 31 at Tarrant Stadium. Last year the Tarrant Wildcats finished with an overall record of 4-5 and in fifth place in Class 2A region seven. The Wildcats ended last season on a positive note with a win over Talladega County Central by a score of 26-12 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Fultondale and Tarrant have met a total of 35 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 13-22-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2016 with Fultondale winning by a score of 46-7.

Fultondale returns 3A All-State Senior defensive lineman Jason King. He was named to the second team last season. The Wildcats also return Senior defensive back Khalil Yow. He was named to the honorable mention team.
