 2017 Preview 


       Andalusia completed the 2016 season with a 12-2 record. Last year Andalusia captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class 4A playoffs. They finished region play with a 5-1 record. Andalusia made a nice playoff run in 2016, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Handley team by the score of 19-0.

       The Bulldogs won as many games as in any season since 1977. The 487 points scored by the Bulldogs last year were a team record in a single season.

       The defense was very stingy last season as Andalusia ranked 5th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 9.4 points a game.

       Over the past two seasons the Bulldogs have gone 23-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Andalusia has gone a combined 61-20. Their 75.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 4A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Andalusia has managed to compile a record of 139-134. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 4A and 181st in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2008.

       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Trent Taylor who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 23-4 over the past two seasons at Andalusia. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Taylor.

       Coach Taylor's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-nine season stands at 206-125 (62.2%). His 206 wins rank st among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Taylor's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twenty-four times and won six region championships.

       The Andalusia Bulldogs will play in Class 4A region one during the 2017 season.

       The Bulldogs enter the 2017 season riding a 6 game regular season winning streak.

       The Bulldogs should be considered one of the favorites for the region one championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Bulldogs are making another deep run into the playoffs.

      Bridges Anderson returns for his senior season after running for 162 yards and catching 45 passes for 586 yards and another 6 scores.

      Senior quarterback Ethan Wilson also returns after completing 134 of 229 passes for 2,107 yards and 21 touchdowns. He gained another 704 rushing and scored six times.

      Defensive end William Lindsey returns for his senior year after registering six sacks last season.

       The Bulldogs open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Shades Valley on Friday, August 25 at Memorial Stadium. Last year the Shades Valley Mounties finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 6A region five. The Mounties ended last season on a positive note with a win over Vestavia Hills by a score of 28-13 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       This will be the second meeting between Andalusia and Shades Valley on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 0-1-0 record against the Mounties. They last met in 1934 with

       Andalusia returns 4A All-State Senior quarterback Ethan Wilson. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.
