 2017 Preview

Alexandria completed the 2016 season with a 5-4 record. Last year Alexandria just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 5A region seven with a 4-3 region record.

The Valley Cubs hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just five games which followed a 11-2 record in 2015.

Since 2010, Alexandria has gone a combined 46-30. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 5A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Alexandria has gone a combined 218-71. Their 75.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 5A and 11th in the AHSAA. The Valley Cubs have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time.

The Valley Cubs are led by head coach Frank Tucker who is entering his eleventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 69-41 over the past ten seasons at Alexandria. Under his direction the Valley Cubs have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Tucker.

Coach Tucker's overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 69-41 (62.7%).

The Alexandria Valley Cubs will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2017 season.

The Valley Cubs will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region seven this season. Alexandria came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

The Valley Cubs open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Talladega on Friday, August 25 at Lou Scales Stadium. Last year the Talladega Tigers finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 5A region four. The Tigers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Winterboro by a score of 36-0 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Alexandria and Talladega have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Valley Cubs have a 7-6-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 1962 with Talladega winning by a score of 20-12.
