Wetumpka completed the 2016 season with a 8-3 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 6A region three, the Indians earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. The Indians open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Prattville on Friday, August 25 at Hohenburg Field. Last year the Prattville Lions finished with an overall record of 2-7 and in fifth place in Class 7A region two. The Lions closed out the regular season with a loss to Sidney Lanier by a score of 21-20. Wetumpka and Prattville have met a total of 59 times on the football field. The Indians have a 27-29-3 record against the Lions. They last met in 2016 with Wetumpka winning by a score of 55-53. Wetumpka returns 6A All-State Senior athlete Kavosiey Smoke.
