 2017 Preview

Northview finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Northview finished seventh in Class 6A region two with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Cougars lost as many games as in any season since 2003. The Cougars last playoff victory came during the 1994 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

Northview was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Cougars want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.9 points a game.

Northview struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 35.6 points a game.

The Cougars would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-17 record. Since 2010, the Northview football program has struggled with a record of 20-51.

Over the past 25 seasons, Northview has managed to compile a record of 89-164. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 6A and 315th in the AHSAA.

LeBrian Stewart leaves Northiview after five seasons with a 16-35 record. None of his teams managed to win more games than they lost and went 0-1 in the playoffs. The Dothan City School Board decided to go in another direction for a once proud program that has found little success in recent years.

Josh Parrish moves over from Daleville after leading the football program for the past three seasons. His teams finished a combined 23-11 reaching the playoffs each year.

Coach Parrish's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 23-11 (67.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Parrish's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times and won one region championship.

The Northview Cougars will play in Class 6A region two during the 2017 season. The Cougars have one of the toughest schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 70-44 last season. That ranks 4th in Class 6A and 18th in the AHSAA.

The Cougars enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 13 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

This season, the Cougars will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Northview will be to simply win some games.

The Cougars open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Baldwin County on Friday, August 25 at Rip Hewes Stadium. Last year the Baldwin County Tigers finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in sixth place in Class 6A region one. The Tigers closed out the regular season with a loss to Daphne by a score of 54-13.

Northview and Baldwin County have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Cougars have a 8-4-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2016 with Baldwin County winning by a score of 35-15.

College prospects include: Anthony Pierce Jr. (6-2, 286) defensive tackle,
