 2017 Preview 


       Cullman completed the 2016 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 6A region seven, the Bearcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Cullman's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Decatur by a score of 35-10.

       The defense allowed a team record 314 points last season.

       Since 2010, Cullman has gone a combined 51-30. Their 63.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 6A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Cullman has managed to compile a record of 191-104. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 6A and 54th in the AHSAA. The Bearcats have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 1996.

       The Bearcats are led by head coach Mark Britton who is entering his seventeenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 130-60 over the past sixteen seasons at Cullman. Under his direction the Bearcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times. They have won three region crowns with Coach Britton.

       Coach Britton's overall record as a head football coach in nineteen season stands at 147-75 (66.2%). His 147 wins rank th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Britton's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of sixteen times and won four region championships.

       Coach Britton needs three wins this season to reach the 150 win milestone.

       The Cullman Bearcats will play in Class 6A region seven during the 2017 season. The Bearcats have one of the toughest schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 63-46 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 6A and 35th in the AHSAA.

       The Bearcats should be in contention for a playoff spot in region seven this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Bearcats open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Hartselle on Friday, August 25 at Woodard Stadium. Last year the Hartselle Tigers finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in third place in Class 6A region eight. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs to Minor by a score of 48-17.

       Cullman and Hartselle have met a total of 102 times on the football field. The Bearcats have a 47-51-4 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2016 with Hartselle winning by a score of 27-17.
