Chelsea completed the 2016 season with a 8-3 record. With their 4-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 6A region three, the Hornets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Chelsea's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Bessemer City by a score of 31-23. The Hornets won as many games as in any season since 2010. The 455 points scored by the Hornets last year were a team record in a single season. The high-scoring Chelsea offense ranked 19th in the AHSAA. They averaged 41.4 points a game. Since 2010, Chelsea has gone a combined 44-30. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 6A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Chelsea has managed to compile a record of 131-136. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 6A and 207th in the AHSAA.
