 2016 Preview 


       Winterboro completed the 2015 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Winterboro just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region five with a 3-3 region record.

       The Bulldogs improved in 2015 with their first winning season since 2011.

       Since 2010, Winterboro has gone a combined 30-33. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Winterboro has managed to compile a record of 101-161. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 1A and 296th in the AHSAA.

       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Alan Beckett who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 10-20 over the past three seasons at Winterboro. The Bulldogs have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Beckett.

       Coach Beckett's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 53-43 (55.2%). Over the course of his career, Coach Beckett's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times and won two region championships.

       The Winterboro Bulldogs will play in Class 1A region four during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Bulldogs remain in 1A but move from region five over to region four.

       The Bulldogs will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region four this season. Winterboro has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2012 but hope to return to the post season this year.

       The Bulldogs open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Keith on Friday, August 19 at J.V. Caldwell Stadium. Last year the Keith Bears finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 1A region four. The Bears lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Georgiana by a score of 34-0.

       Winterboro and Keith have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 2-0-0 record against the Bears. They last met in with

       Winterboro returns 1A All-State Senior offensive lineman Khalil Keith. He was named to the second team last season. The Bulldogs also return Senior linebacker Marcus McMeans. He was named to the honorable mention team.
