2016 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wadley completed the 2015 season with a 10-2 record. Last year Wadley captured the region five title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Bulldogs since the 2005 season. Wadley lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Cedar Bluff team by a score of 34-27. The Bulldogs won as many games as in any season since 2007. The defense was very stingy last season as Wadley ranked 13th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 10.8 points a game. Since 2010, Wadley has gone a combined 34-31. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 1A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Wadley has managed to compile a record of 174-110. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 1A and 78th in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs are led by head coach Ken Fordham who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 21-13 over the past three seasons at Wadley. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Fordham. Coach Fordham's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 51-46 (52.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Fordham's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times and won two region championships. The Wadley Bulldogs will play in Class 1A region four during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Bulldogs remain in 1A but move from region five over to region four. The Bulldogs enter the 2016 season having won 8 straight region games. The Bulldogs should be considered one of the favorites for the region four championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Bulldogs open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Randolph County on Friday, August 19 at Curtis Lynch Stadium. Last year the Randolph County Tigers finished with an overall record of 13-1 and in first place in Class 2A region five. The Tigers lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 2A playoffs to Fyffe by a score of 20-17. Wadley and Randolph County have met a total of 45 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 8-32-5 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2011 with Randolph County winning by a score of 56-13. Wadley returns 1A All-State sophomore offensive lineman Chris Hodges. He was named to the second team last season. The Bulldogs also return Junior receiver Quae Drake. He was named to the honorable mention team. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
