2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Tarrant finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Tarrant finished sixth in Class 2A region six with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. No team at Tarrant ever lost more games in a season than the nine they lost last year. The last time they lost as many was back in 1997. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Tarrant averaged scoring just 13.9 points a game. Since 2010, Tarrant has gone a combined 18-43. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 49th in Class 2A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Tarrant has managed to compile a record of 136-139. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 2A and 190th in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2010. The Wildcats are led by head coach Eric Johnson who is entering his tenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 31-62 over the past nine seasons at Tarrant. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Johnson. Coach Johnson's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 31-62 (33.3%). The Tarrant Wildcats will play in Class 2A region seven during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 2A but move from region six over to region seven. The Wildcats have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 71-40 last season. That ranks 2nd in Class 2A and 16th in the AHSAA. Region seven will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season. The Wildcats enter the 2016 season in the middle of a 6 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Wildcats will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region seven. The Wildcats open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Midfield on Friday, August 19 at Winfred E. Jackson Stadium. Last year the Midfield Patriots finished with an overall record of 6-4 and in second place in Class 3A region three. The Patriots lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Opp by a score of 49-20. Tarrant and Midfield have met a total of 37 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 14-23-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2013 with Midfield winning by a score of 28-4. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
