 2016 Preview

Tanner completed the 2015 season with a 11-1 record. The Rattlers cruised through the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record going into the post season. Last year Tanner captured the region six title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Tanner reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Ranburne by a score of 56-55.

The 689 points scored by the Rattlers last year were a team record in a single season.

The high-scoring Tanner offense ranked 1st in the AHSAA. They averaged 57.4 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Rattlers have gone 21-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Tanner has gone a combined 73-7. Their 91.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 2A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Tanner has gone a combined 208-88. Their 70.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 2A and 31st in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2001.

The Rattlers are led by head coach Laron White who is entering his fourteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 139-26 over the past thirteen seasons at Tanner. Under his direction the Rattlers have qualified for the playoffs a total of thirteen times. They have won eight region crowns with Coach White. Coach White has won two state championships at Tanner, the last coming in 2013.

Coach White's overall record as a head football coach in thirteen season stands at 139-26 (84.2%). His 139 wins rank 32nd among active coaches in the AHSAA.

The Tanner Rattlers will play in Class 2A region seven during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Rattlers remain in 2A but move from region six over to region seven. The Rattlers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 68-35 last season. That ranks 1st in Class 2A and 7th in the AHSAA.

Region seven will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season.

The Rattlers enter the 2016 season riding a 14 game regular season winning streak. Tanner has won 47 consecutive region games. While most teams rebuild during the off season, Tanner has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Rattlers should be considered one of the favorites for the region seven championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Rattlers have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2001 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

The Rattlers open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent West Limestone on Friday, August 19 at James Kennemer Stadium. Last year the West Limestone Wildcats finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in third place in Class 4A region eight. The Wildcats lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Cordova by a score of 39-7.

Tanner and West Limestone have met a total of 61 times on the football field. The Rattlers have a 33-26-2 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2015 with Tanner winning by a score of 28-21.

Tanner returns 2A All-State Senior athlete Chadarius Townsend. He was named to the first team last season. The Rattlers also return Senior running back Lee Hisbon. He was named to the second team.

College prospects include: Chadarius Townsend (6-0, 190) athlete,
