 2016 Preview

Tallassee completed the 2015 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 5A region three, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Tallassee's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Jackson by a score of 35-7.

Tallassee took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2011.

Since 2010, Tallassee has gone a combined 43-25. Their 63.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 4A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Tallassee has managed to compile a record of 152-125. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 4A and 127th in the AHSAA.

The Tigers are led by head coach Mike Battles Jr. who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 30-16 over the past four seasons at Tallassee. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won one region crown with Coach Battles Jr..

Coach Battles Jr.'s overall record as a head football coach in nineteen season stands at 147-71 (67.4%). His 147 wins rank 26th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Battles Jr.'s teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fifteen times and won five region championships.

Coach Battles Jr. needs three wins this season to reach the 150 win milestone.

The Tallassee Tigers will play in Class 4A region three during the 2016 season. The Tigers may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 5A to 4A. They will compete in region three this year.

The Tigers will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region three this season. They have qualified for the playoffs every year since 2007 and are hopeful to continue that streak in 2016.

Running back Kiwanis Woods returns for his junior season after rushing for 523 yards and 4 touchdowns last year.

The Tigers open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Russell County on Friday, August 19 at Corbett-Mitchell Stadium. Last year the Russell County Warriors finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in eighth place in Class 6A region two. The Warriors closed out the regular season with a loss to Beauregard by a score of 82-36.

Tallassee and Russell County have met a total of 11 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 11-0-0 record against the Warriors. They last met in 2011 with Tallassee winning by a score of 40-14.
