 2016 Preview 


       Sulligent completed the 2015 season with a 8-4 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region eight, the Blue Devils earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Sulligent reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Cleveland by a score of 38-13.

       Since 2010, Sulligent has gone a combined 33-33. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 2A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Sulligent has managed to compile a record of 134-144. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 2A and 214th in the AHSAA.

       The Blue Devils are led by head coach Daniel Merchant who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 8-4 record in his first season at Sulligent. The Blue Devils saw improvement from a 6-5 record the season before coach Merchant arrived. Under his direction the Blue Devils have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Merchant.

       Coach Merchant's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 8-4 (66.7%).

       The Sulligent Blue Devils will play in Class 2A region eight during the 2016 season.

       The Blue Devils enter the 2016 season riding a 6 game regular season winning streak.

       The Blue Devils should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

      Quarterback CJ McLemore returns for his sophomore season after completing 49 of 95 passes for 857 yards and 8 touchdowns last season.

      Running back Tyreke Metcalf returns for his junior season after rushing for 599 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2015.

       The Blue Devils open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Marion County on Friday, August 19 at Don Jones Field at Bill Rayburn Staduim. Last year the Marion County Red Raiders finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in fifth place in Class 1A region six. The Red Raiders closed out the regular season with a loss to Red Bay by a score of 52-16.

       Sulligent and Marion County have met a total of 68 times on the football field. The Blue Devils have a 41-22-5 record against the Red Raiders. They last met in 2011 with Marion County winning by a score of 49-22.

       Sulligent returns 2A All-State Junior defensive lineman Hunter Motichek. He was named to the second team last season.
