2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Selma completed the 2015 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Selma finished sixth in Class 6A region four with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Saints last playoff victory came during the 1984 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Selma was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Saints want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.1 points a game. Since 2010, Selma has gone a combined 31-31. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 6A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Selma has managed to compile a record of 97-150. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 47th in Class 6A and 287th in the AHSAA. After six seasons at Selma, Leroy Miles has resigned to accept a position with the Alabama Department of Education. His teams at Selma finished a combined 31-31 and 0-2 in the playoffs. Keon Handley Sr. has been named as the new head football coach at Selma. Handley is a graduate of Fairfield in Birmingham and Miles College. The Selma Saints will play in Class 6A region four during the 2016 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Saints if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. The Saints open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Southside Selma on Friday, August 26 at Memorial Stadium. Last year the Southside Selma Panthers finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 4A region one. The Panthers closed out the regular season with a loss to Dallas County by a score of 41-14. Selma and Southside Selma have met a total of 41 times on the football field. The Saints have a 32-9-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2015 with Selma winning by a score of 35-26. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
