 2016 Preview

Saks completed the 2015 season with a 8-3 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 4A region six, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Saks's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to West Limestone by a score of 42-36.

The Wildcats had some tough luck last season as they lost three games, all by less than eight points.

The high-scoring Saks offense ranked 8th in the AHSAA. They averaged 43.0 points a game.

Since 2010, Saks has gone a combined 50-18. Their 74.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 4A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Saks has managed to compile a record of 138-132. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 4A and 174th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2010.

The Wildcats are led by head coach Jonathan Miller who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 39-9 over the past four seasons at Saks. Under his direction the Wildcats have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won one region crown with Coach Miller.

Coach Miller's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 39-9 (81.3%).

The Saks Wildcats will play in Class 4A region five during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 4A but move from region six over to region five.

The Wildcats should be considered one of the favorites for the region five championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

The Wildcats open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Walter Wellborn on Friday, August 26 at Jack Stewart Field. Last year the Walter Wellborn Panthers finished with an overall record of 6-4 and in third place in Class 3A region six. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Lauderdale County by a score of 22-7.

Saks and Walter Wellborn have met a total of 60 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 20-40-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2015 with Walter Wellborn winning by a score of 21-20.
