 2016 Preview 


       Munford completed the 2015 season with a 10-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 4A region three, the Lions earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Munford made a nice playoff run in 2015, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Leeds team by the score of 48-20.

       The 482 points scored by the Lions last year were a team record in a single season.

       Since 2010, Munford has gone a combined 47-26. Their 64.0% winning percentage ranks 16th in Class 4A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Munford has managed to compile a record of 137-140. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 4A and 180th in the AHSAA. Their last losing season was 2010.

       The Lions are led by head coach William F. Smith who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 10-4 record in his first season at Munford. The Lions saw improvement from a 9-4 record the season before coach Smith arrived. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Smith.

       Coach Smith's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 45-34 (57.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Smith's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times .

       The Munford Lions will play in Class 4A region three during the 2016 season.

       The Lions enter the 2016 season riding a 5 game regular season winning streak.

       The Lions should be in contention for a playoff spot in region three this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Lions open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Central Clay County on Friday, August 19 at Munford Stadium. Last year the Central Clay County Volunteers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in second place in Class 5A region three. The Volunteers lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Vigor by a score of 26-14.

       Munford and Central Clay County have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Lions have a 0-8-0 record against the Volunteers. They last met in 2015 with Central Clay County winning by a score of 21-7.

       Munford returns 4A All-State Senior quarterback Avery Harris. He was named to the second team last season. The Lions also return Senior offensive lineman Jakari Robinson. He was named to the second team.
