2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Moody completed the 2015 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Moody finished sixth in Class 5A region six with a 3-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Blue Devils last playoff victory came during the 2004 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, Moody has gone a combined 25-37. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 5A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Moody has managed to compile a record of 114-149. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 5A and 256th in the AHSAA. The Blue Devils are led by head coach Jay Brown who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 25-27 over the past five seasons at Moody. Under his direction the Blue Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Brown. Coach Brown's overall record as a head football coach in seventeen season stands at 93-88 (51.4%). Over the course of his career, Coach Brown's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won three region championships. If Moody can win seven games this season, Coach Brown will reach the 100 win milestone. The Moody Blue Devils will play in Class 5A region five during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Blue Devils remain in 5A but move from region six over to region five. With a little luck and some improvement, the Blue Devils could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region five this season. Unfortunately, Moody finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason. Moody came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. Running back Gabe Webb returns for his junior season after rushing for 1,171 yards and 11 touchdowns as a sophomore last year. The Blue Devils open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Springville on Friday, August 26 at Bill Morris Stadium. Last year the Springville Tigers finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in eighth place in Class 5A region six. The Tigers ended last season on a positive note with a win over John Carroll by a score of 31-20 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Moody and Springville have met a total of 37 times on the football field. The Blue Devils have a 21-16-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2015 with Moody winning by a score of 42-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
