2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Meek completed the 2015 season with a 7-4 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 1A region six, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Meek's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Decatur Heritage Christian by a score of 29-28. The Tigers won as many games as in any season since 2003. The 420 points scored by the Tigers last year were a team record in a single season. It marked the first time since the 2012 season that the Tigers qualified for the playoffs. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 2003 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The Tigers had some tough luck last season as three of their four losses were by less than eight points. Since 2010, Meek has gone a combined 23-39. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 1A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Meek has managed to compile a record of 104-160. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 1A and 293rd in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Lance Archer who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 23-39 over the past six seasons at Meek. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Archer. Coach Archer's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 23-39 (37.1%). The Meek Tigers will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 1A but move from region six over to region seven. The Tigers will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region seven this season. The Tigers open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Phillips Bear Creek on Friday, August 19 at James E. Glass Stadium. Last year the Phillips Bear Creek Bears finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 1A region eight. The Bears lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to South Lamar by a score of 54-42. Meek and Phillips Bear Creek have met a total of 24 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 12-12-0 record against the Bears. They last met in 2015 with Meek winning by a score of 28-0. Meek returns 1A All-State Junior athlete John Abercrombie. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
